I realized that this is my fifth consecutive winter flying to Calgary for ski Banff, all thanks to the affordable flight deals recommended by friends. For just over 100 CAD for a round-trip from Toronto (without checked luggage), it seemed impossible to turn down. I was lucky this year with great early snowfall!
We booked our flight and stay on Expedia. Our accommodation was at the Rocky Mountain Resort just as you enter Banff town. We, a group of 8 people stayed in two two-bedroom suites for 1400 CAD for the week from December 10-17. The town was still quiet with very few visitors and skiers at that time.

Over the five days, we took the free shuttle to Lake Louise and Sunshine Village. The shuttle left at 8 AM, before sunrise. Our resort was at the entrance of Banff town, making it the first stop for the shuttle.
The shuttle bus would make a few stops in Banff town to pick up other guests, we always had the first choice of seats and were the first to get off when returning.
Ski Banff Sunshine Village & Lake Louise
Every evening, we would enjoy a hearty meal, but on one particular day, Jim unfortunately got injured after twisting his ankle in the powder snow. He spent the rest of the trip resting at the lodge, leaving us to enjoy the rest of the ski days without him.
The next day, we had a great time in Sunshine village for ski Banff. The runs back to the parking lot were so much fun!

We booked 2 units and both have kitchen. After a day of skiing, we often cooked our own dinner. Not only did it save us money, but it was also a highlight of our group trip. Sharing meals and chatting together with all eight of us was one of the greatest joys of the experience. Jim, who couldn’t ski due to the injury, stayed home to cook for us and showcase his culinary skills. Whenever we’re in Calgary, we make sure to enjoy some Alberta beef steaks!

Exploring Kicking Horse
The Ikon Pass gave us 5 days of skiing in the Big3, but we decided to add an extra day to ski Kicking Horse which is on Epic pass. After watching the weather forecast, we found a sunny day and drove the 1.5-hour trip there.

On a sunny day, the views from the mountaintop are absolutely stunning! Surrounded by towering peaks, the scenery is truly breathtaking. At the peak is Eagle’s Eye, Canada’s highest restaurant. Even if you’re not skiing, I highly recommend a visit to this incredible spot—not just for the food, but for the unbeatable views of North America’s highest restaurant, nestled among the mountains.
